Activity: Choose a color and paint a space on this artist outlined piece that will live on at the Park.
About the Artist: Brooke Ripley is an environmentalist artist and activist whose work centralizes around native biodiversity. She received her BFA in Fine Arts, with minors in Art History and Social Practice from the Columbus College of Art and Design. She is currently an MFA Candidate at Ohio University, where she has received a Visual Arts Management Certificate and is currently enrolled in the Museum Studies Certificate Program.
Activity: Community collected bottle caps will become Garden Art pieces in our outdoor Imagination Space. Take part in building several colorful pieces for the Park through this artist led project.
About the Artist: With 38 years of art teaching experience, Robin Clay has worked with people aged 4 to 94. She is rooted in the belief that collaborative creative arts experiences bring people together, empowering them to be part of something bigger than themselves. Robin has facilitated over 20 collaborative art experiences, many of them involving entire communities.
Activity: A three story installation of 14,000 eyeglasses inspires us to make a smaller community collected and built sculpture in the style of the original.
Take part in creating a 9' large eyeglass lens installation by placing hooked eyeglass lens on our structure. The final product will sparkle in the light in the center of the Imagination Space.
About the Artist: Being born in the Glass Capital of the World (Toledo, Ohio) may have had something to do with Kris Hyland Kolb’s love of glass. She has made art with blown glass, leaded glass, slumped glass, and etched glass and has been collecting beach glass for most of her life. After retiring from 35 years of teaching art for the Marion City Schools, where she taught jewelry, photography, and graphic design at Marion Harding High School, she signed up for a jewelry course at Ohio Wesleyan University with professor Cynthia Cetlin. It was here where she was encouraged to start creating something with her sea glass collection. Now, several years later, she sells her jewelry from New England to Key West, from the US Virgin Islands to Canada, from the Midwest to the West Coast. Sea glass is nature’s way of recycling our trash into beautifully colored and textured gems, so she thinks of herself as a recycling artist. Since her jewelry begins by drilling holes in sea glass, doing the same with recycled eyeglass lenses was not a huge leap. She is excited to be part of this year’s CREATE! project.
Activity: Participants will be constructing an outdoor sculpture using recycled materials. The piece called Finding Home explores the way in which people find that special place they call home. Whether a 19th century quilt pattern used on the Underground Railroad or a modern day GPS connected to a satellite, we all seek that place which offers comfort and peace.
About the Artist: Mary Weiler Williams received her BS and MA from OSU. After retiring from a 30 year career of teaching art for Marion City Schools, Williams continued sharing her love of art by teaching at the Arts Castle, Sourcepoint, and OWU-Owjl. She has been named Central Ohio Art Teacher of the year and Delaware Arts Festival Artist of the Year. Her Art quilts have won awards at Delaware Artist Guild and Senior Showcase Art shows . You can find both Mary and her art at Gallery 22 here in Delaware.
What to Expect: Participate in the lost art of Paper Ghost Writing by practicing with our artist on a collaborative piece and creating a bookmark to take home!
What is Ghost Signature? The ghost signature is a lost art, originating in the Edwardian era as a keepsake guest-book logged at gatherings. Each signature was unique, and the beauty of each signature was in the handwriting of the writer. It's the anti-calligraphy, in that it is completely whimsical and free of form.
About the Artist: Local artist KDBear began III as a journey of visual representation of poetry and phrase through art. When coming across the short-lived fad of the Edwardian ghost signature, she fell deeply in love with the beauty these handwritten, completely unique little messages held. Each III piece is printed and handwritten using high-quality inks, brushes and dip pens written on different types of paper.
